Lady Mavericks pitch soccer shutouts

The Lady Mavericks opened the week Tuesday, Sept. 15, with a 2-0 home victory over William Blount before turning in what Curtin considered a stronger performance in a 3-0 road win over Lenoir City two days later.
Goals against William Blount were scored by Delilah Colby and Daniele Pack and assists from Lily Trent and Morgan Haire.
“I felt like William Blount played really well; their goalkeeper had a phenomenal night,” Curtin said. “She did great. We didn’t dominate as well as I had hoped.
“I mean, it’s hard to complain about a win, but at the same time, I want to get ready for postseason,” Curtin added.
The Lady Mavericks junior varsity team also defeated William Blount 1-0 on a goal by Allie Shellhorn.
On Thursday, Sept. 17, Anderson County’s varsity traveled to Lenoir City and posted another shutout, winning 3-0 behind goals from Roxanna Aguilar, Kate Swisher and Trent.
“The girls came out and really played well,” Curtin said. “They played together. They played intensely. They just got in there and fought for the ball hard and won a lot.
“And their passes were good,” he added. “Their pressing was good. There were a lot of good things.”
The Anderson County JV team also defeated Lenoir City 1-0.
Daisy Dyer scored the goal off an assist from Eden Stout.
On Wednesday, Sept. 16, Loudon’s JV team visited Anderson County, with the Lady Mavericks recording another 1-0 victory.
Stout scored the game’s lone goal.
Curtin also praised goalkeeper Bria Willis for keeping opponents off the scoreboard throughout the week.
“Bria Willis, our goalkeeper, had a clean sheet all week,” Curtin said. “So, she didn’t have any goals scored against her. That’s always a good thing for a goalkeeper.”
