Hannah repeats as district champ
Clinton High School senior golfer Grant Hannah made program history with another championship performance on the links.
Hannah became the first golfer in Clinton history to win back-to-back individual district championships, Dragons golf coach Matt Cain confirmed.
Hannah fired a 1-over-par 73 over 18 holes at Lake Tansi to capture the district championship by one stroke.
“Obviously, he was good enough to win, but I was most proud of his mental game,” Cain said. “For a while, he’s had the physical side of it and the ability to have the perfect swing, but he hit a shot out of bounds, and he bounced back from it better than anything I’ve ever seen.
“He just put that behind him and moved on, and he just totally dominated the group that he was playing with,” Cain added.
Hannah’s victory gave him his second consecutive individual district championship and a place in the Clinton golf record book.
Hollifield advances
On the girls side, Clinton junior Reece Hollifield advanced to the region tournament after shooting a 58 in the district tournament.
The girls competition was shortened to nine holes because the golfers did not tee off until around 3 p.m. and darkness prevented completion of an 18-hole round.
The boys and girls region tournaments were scheduled for Monday, Sept. 28, at Springbrook Golf and Country Club in Niota.
