Hawks ready for top-seed showdown

After hitting a bump in the road last week with a 38-8 loss to Oneida, the Clinton Hawks middle school football team still enters postseason play with a 6-2 record.

The Hawks traveled to Gatlinburg-Pittman Middle School and walked away with a 28-0 victory Thursday, Sept. 17.

“Our defense played lights out; our offense executed well,” Hawks Coach Eric Woodard said.

Chris Frazier provided a pair of big plays, returning a punt 75 yards for a touchdown and taking a fumble recovery 30 yards for another score.

Westin Gladon hauled in a 25-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jaxson Sherwood, while Reece Adkins broke loose for a 70-yard touchdown run.

Luke Whitt caught a 2-point conversion pass from Sherwood.

Defensively, Jacob Deal intercepted a pass and made “several tackles,” as did Whitt, Woodard said. Owen Griffin, Kooper Bayless and Adkins each recorded multiple tackles for loss.

Scott County awaits

An undefeated Scott County team visits the Hawks this week with the No. 1 seed in the upcoming playoffs at stake.

“They are well-coached and have some playmakers,” Woodard said, adding that the Hawks will need to play their best game of the year to come away with the victory.
