A Legacy of 22

Clinton High School Principal Robbie Herrell, left, joins Lora Treece and Scott Hale, the daughter and son of the late Tony L. Hale, during a tribute honoring Hale’s decades of service to education. The family was presented with a framed Clinton football jersey bearing No. 22, representing the 22 years Hale spent at Clinton High School. Hale became principal at Clinton High in 1976 and remained there for the final 22 years of his 37-year career in education, making him the longest-tenured principal in school history.

During his career, Hale also served as a teacher, coach and administrator at schools in Union and Anderson counties. A former collegiate baseball player and U.S. Army veteran, Hale was inducted into the College Baseball Hall of Fame in 1990. His career was marked by a commitment to students and educators, and he credited Clinton High’s teachers and staff for the school’s successes during his tenure.
