Willis reaches 300-save career milestone
Anderson County closed the regular season atop the District 4-2A standings with an unbeaten 4-0 record, while senior goalkeeper Bria Willis reached a career milestone.
“My goalkeeper Bria Willis did get her 300th save; she’s crossed that threshold of 300 saves in her career, so that was pretty cool,” Lady Mavericks Coach Chris Curtin said after his team wrapped up the regular season with a 4-1 home victory over district rival Gibbs.
Daniele Pack scored Anderson County’s first goal making it 1-1 at the break.
“We went into the locker room tied at halftime and, I’ll just say, we talked,” Curtin said. “And agreed that we need to change some things coming out.”
The Lady Mavericks responded.
Kate Swisher scored off an assist from Morgan Haire, while Roxanna Aguilar struck twice to put the match away. Reagan Bedwell assisted on one of Aguilar’s goals, with Lily Trent setting up the other.
The victory improved Anderson County’s overall record to 10-5-1.
“I feel like, overall, we’re doing really well. The girls are kind of firing on all cylinders,” Curtin said. “And so, you know, we have had some injuries. And so that’s causing people to have to step up and play bigger roles, and they’ve done that well. And so I’m just pleased with where we are.
“The defenders and midfielders and the attackers all work together, and that’s one of the things that we really try to focus on a lot,” he added. “I’m just proud of where they are, and I’m hopeful that we can stay focused. I think this is a team that could definitely make a really good run at state. And so we just got to keep doing what we do best, and I think that everything will go all right.”
Anderson County will turn its attention to the District 4-2A tournament..
“I know that it will either be Clinton or Union County, so they have to play a game on Monday, Oct. 12, to determine who plays us on Tuesday, Oct. 13,” Curtin said.
