Former A-Ville Diner becoming office space

Nearly two years since the A-Ville Diner in Andersonville closed, its owners have begun remodeling the building into office space, but have not yet revealed who the tenant might be.

The restaurant, which was only open for about 10 months after it replaced the former Pizza Plus in the building at 3605 Andersonville Highway, was owned and operated by Roy and Teresa Bruce.

They were the longtime owners and operators of the Andersonville BP gas station and convenience store, which they sold in 2024.

After that, they bought the Pizza Plus building, across the street from the convenience store, with plans to open the diner there.

In a Facebook post last week, the Bruces acknowledged having plans for the site, and said an announcement of what would be locating there would be made soon. They could not be reached for comment on their plans on Monday.

An Anderson County building permit is taped to the inside of the front window.

Examination of the permit at the Anderson County Courthouse revealed only that the use of the building will be an “office,” and listed the contractor as Matchette Construction of 3917 Andersonville Highway, Andersonville.

The face of the permit lists the owner as Roy Bruce, and the permit says the value of the work being done is $30,000.

A look inside the front glass reveals that the interior is being framed up to be divided into separate rooms, with what appears to be a lobby area across the front, about 10 feet deep into the building.

The building still has the same drive-up window on the west side that Pizza Plus used for takeout orders.

Both of the Bruces said earlier that they decided to sell the convenience store because they had been in that business for 45 years, and needed a “less-stressful life.”

They said at the time that they believed the diner would be less work that the store was.

Pizza Plus lost its lease when the Bruces bought the property, and the pizza chain’s owners decided not to try to find another location in this area.

The building was sold to the Bruces Dec. 7, 2023, for $365,000, according to online county property records.

A spokeswoman for the Blountville-based Pizza Plus said at the time that the Andersonville location was the furthest of its 56 stores from its home base, and that the company did not want another store that far away.
